Rico's Travels

Following the everyday adventures of Rico.

Just a thought…

Hey Tumblr! It’s been a while since my last post. Figured I was due for one, so here is something that’s been heavy on my mind these past few days…

Why should I continue to be pleasant and respectful to someone who obviously doesn’t have any intention to do likewise for me? Sadly I think I am in denial about the entire thing… I seem to think that the person’s going to change eventually as a result just as long as I continue to persevere! But, the truth is everyday I am the one taking more and more beatings and disappointment…I think I’m loosing this one-sided war and I haven’t even begun to fight! Yet is it even worth the effort in the long run?

Only time will tell….

What Kind of Man Am I?

Tonight prompted me to ask myself the question, “What kind of man, am I?” You hear about “men” but are they really men or just some facade of a man? Because what really determines the status of a man? Their muscular ability? Their lack of emotions? Or is it their moral strength? What I propose is that what really makes a man is his ability to hold to what he believes in. To be unwavering. Firmly planted, and ready to defend those ideals no matter the coat to them. Sure many people can state they would die for their beliefs, but would they? Would I?

A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute. He may not seem such a good friend after telling.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.

Maturity and Secrets

Tonight one of my friends, after I shared something with him, said something that got me thinking…the basis dealt with one’s maturity and the secrets that we share with others. Really think about it…Do we really have friends that we hide things from and others that we are 100% open with? Could it really have to do with the maturity of the other person or more with trust? Or is it a mixture of the two? Regardless, tonight felt really good to finally be able to share something with one of my closest friends and get it all off my chest! Sure it sucks keeping things hidden from some…but, they’re just not ready for it…yet when they are, they can be sure I’ll be a sharing! :)

NOTE: This secret I told is not what some may think it’s about. This does not deal with gender, relationships, etc. lol So please no false rumors… That is also why I included the maturity comment in the above post…lol

I think if I have learned anything about friendship,it is to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, and don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.

Christmas Time

Christmas is one of my favorite seasons. I love the feel, and look of this season. I have SO many great memories of Christmas! Mainly events and activities that I spent with my family. Whether it be buying our traditional tree and seeing it cut down, or blaring Christmas music while decorating the house…Christmas means a lot to me. So as one could imagine when watching the snow moment down Main Street an seeing families taking photos and sharing in this memory together, kinda hit me hard. And usually does. For me my family is divided amongst three major cities and can’t as easily share in such moments anymore. Then I look at all my awesome friends here and I realize that I am spending the season with family. No matter blood related or not, they mean the world to me too! :)

It ain’t what they call you, it’s what you answer to.
